Alvin L. Stoker

Alvin L. Stoker, 83 of Tarrs, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 with his loving daughters at his side at the Hempfield Manor, Greensburg. Alvin was born, October 24, 1934 in Tarrs, the son of the late Isabelle Stoker Graham. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dolores, on May 22, 2014. Alvin was a member of the Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren and attended the Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren. Graduating from East Huntingdon High School in 1952, he went on to serve in the Army from 1957 to 1959 when honorably discharged to the Army Reserve. He received degrees from Waynesburg College and Robert Morris University, then went on to work as an accountant for Needham Chevrolet in Latrobe. He went on to teach business at Connellsville Area High School until his retirement. Mr. Stoker served on the Southmoreland School Board for over 25 years and the board of the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center. He also taught at the Westmoreland County Community College. Surviving are his daughters, Debbie Grindle and husband Brian, Diane Stoker and Denise Puskar and husband John; and his grandchildren, Dylan Grindle and Brandon Puskar. The family would like to thank the Veterans for their assistance and the Hempfield Manor and Excela Health Hospice for their kind and considerate care of their father during his illness. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE 730 W. Main Street Mt. Pleasant where services will be held at 10:30AM Thursday with Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 446, Mt. Pleasant will follow in the Mt.
