Andrew G. Vilky, Jr. 89 of Mt. Pleasant Twp. passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Brookvale Senior Living, Murrysville. Andy was born August 3, 1927 in Footedale, PA the son of the late Andrew G. and Mary Gaydos Velky. Upon graduation from Germantown High School, Andy enrolled into a training technical school for several years, then in 1950 enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War, which would be the beginning of his military career. After reenlisting in 1954 in Frankfort, Germany, he traveled to Essex, England, Amarillo, Tx, Tan Son Nhut,Vietnam, Misawa Air Base, Japan and finally, McGuire AFB, NJ, where he was honorably discharged a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran after 30 years of service. During his time in the military, Andy was an active member of the service softball teams, he was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United and organizations within the church for many years. Andy is survived by a brother, Paul J. Velky, Sr. and wife, Mary of Odenton, MD, grandchildren, Jennifer, Christine, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Bridget and Sarah; daughter-in-law, Margaret Vilky of Waldorf, MD and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Andy was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Vilky, his first wife, Bridget in 1988 and his second wife, Martha Donovan Vilky in 2016. The family is inviting friends from 11am to Noon Saturday, February 4, 2017 to St. Florian Catholic Church 4263 Route 981 United, PA 15689 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon Saturday, February 4, 2017 with Rev. John A. Sedlak as celebrant. Full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 446 Mt. Pleasant will follow the service at the church. Private interment will be held in the Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Andy may be made to ViaQuest Hospice 610 Park Avenue Monongahela, PA 15063.
