Charles Raymond Lessman

Charles Raymond (Red) Lessman 90, of Mount Pleasant passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Amber House, Mt. Pleasant. Ray was born September 19, 1923 , a son of the late Charles and Lillian Workman Lessman and the husband of seventy years to the late Ruth Ahlborn Lessman. He was a member of the Middle Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant Twp. where he served in the offices of deacon, trustee and elder. He also served on the board of the Middle Presbyterian Cemetery Association. He was a 1940 graduate of Hurst High School; Ray served in the US Army during WWII and was awarded a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, a Bronze Star and the European, African and Middle Eastern Service Medals for his service in the Italian Campaigns. He was a 58 year member of the American Legion Post #446 where he served two separate terms (1982-83 and 1985-86) as Commander and was also a founding member of the Honor Guard, he was also a Lifetime member of the Mt. Pleasant VFW. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Legion baseball Team and was an avid hunter. Prior to his retirement Ray was employed by the H.C Frick Carpentertown Mine and the Durloy Company of Scottdale. Surviving are his daughters, Sandra Anderson and husband Bruce of Morgantown,WV, Judith Stinebiser and husband Randall of Berlin, MD, Mary Chedrick and husband Daniel of Greensburg and Mina Crusan of New Stanton; grandchildren, Diane Stinebiser, Kristin Rubin, Robert Stinebiser, Daniel Chedrick, Jr., Jenifer Bray, Christopher Crusan and Nathan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Chedrick, Kirstin Chedrick, Daniel Chedrick, Margaret Rubin, Amy Bray, Olivia Stinebiser, Hannah Rubin, Spencer Stinebiser, Joshua Crusan, William Bray, Madelynne Anderson, Makenze Crusan, Molly Stinebiser, Hunter Chedrick, and Skylar Anderson; a sister, Rebecca Heide and husband Vernon of Stahlstown; also numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Booher, Annabel Ahlborn and D. Lorraine Lessman and brothers, Gilbert and Ross Lessman. The family is inviting friends from 2 to 8PM Monday to SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE 730 W. MAIN STREET MOUNT PLEASANT (724-547-2122) and from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at the Middle Presbyterian Church Rte. 981 Mt. Pleasant where services will be held at 11AM Tuesday with Rev. Linda Snyder officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by the Mount Pleasant American Legion Post 446 will follow in the Middle Presbyterian Cemetery.
