Donna Rae Connors

After battling for 33 years, and surviving 12 types of cancer, Donna Rae (Thackeray) Connors, of Acme, PA, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed on to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg, PA.
Born November 23, 1939 in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late George & Martha (Thomas) Thackeray.
Donna lived in Acme, PA since 1993, and was a 1957 graduate of Perry Traditional Academy. She worked as an administrator for Dr. Finkelhor & Dr. Scott at West Penn Hospital for many years, retiring to care for her son Norman. Donna was a member and elder at Reunion Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, member of the Scottdale/Mt. Pleasant Saturday Afternoon Club, and the Red Hat Society. She was a longtime volunteer at the Excela Health- Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed working election days at the Bear Rocks Community Club.
Donna was an avid reader, and enjoyed caring for others, including the little critters in her mountain community. But she most loved spending time and being with her family, especially her grandson, Charles III.
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman J. Connors, Jr., who passed away on March 14, 2005.
She is survived by her best friend and husband, Charles J. Connors, Sr.; son, Norman E. (Marianna) Connors; step-sons, Charles J. (Natalie) Connors, Jr. of Harrison City, Michael S. Connors of Red Lion, PA; step-daughters, Colleen M. (Bill) Gribbin, Christine L. (Chuck) Tragesser, Cathleen C. (David) White, all of Murrysville; step-grandchildren, Jacqueline & Joseph Gribbin, Chuckie, Caroline, and Carly Tragesser, John and Katie White, Charles III; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her beloved Sichon, Gabbi; and a number of friends whose lives she touched over the years.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Saloom-Rega Funeral Service, 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, PA. Additional visitation will take place in Reunion Presbyterian Church, 769 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m. in the Church with Pastor Susan Washburn officiating. Private interment in Allegheny County Memorial Park, Pittsburgh, at the convenience of the family.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Donna's name to the Reunion Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, 769 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, PA, 15666.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home, Apollo, PA, and Saloom-Rega Funeral Service, Mt. Pleasant, PA.
