Frank R. McConnell, 91, of Mount Pleasant ( Bullskin Township) passed away Sunday June 8 , 2014, in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg surrounded by his family. Frank was born June 21, 1922, in Mount Pleasant, a son of the late Harry J. and Pearl Kuhns McConnell. Frank was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, a WW II Army veteran serving with the 95th Infantry Division during the battles of Northern France Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving a Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, WW II Victory Medal and a Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany. He was employed by Robertshaw Controls as a machine operator retiring in 1975 after 34 years of service. Frank was a member of the Mount Pleasant American Legion Post 446, Mount Pleasant Fireman's Club, Bridgeport Sportsman's and Scottdale VFW Post 7781. Frank loved to hunt and fish, making numerous trips to Pymatuning and Conemaugh. Frank is survived by a son, Richard McConnell and wife Darlene of Mount Pleasant Twp., a daughter-in-law, Patricia McConnell of Oviedo, FL; grandchildren, Rob, Kimberly, Brian and Brent; six great-grandchildren; a brother Gerald McConnell of CA; sisters, Elsie Zylka of Mt. Pleasant, Mary May and Jean Michalchak of Mt. Pleasant Twp, Rosalie Garchar and Ruth Washburn of FL and Carolyn Smith of OH. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Sterrett McConnell in 2008; a son, Robert McConnell; brothers, Earl, Wilkus and Charles McConnell and sisters, Fern Newman, June Grimm and Alice Kreinbrook. The family is inviting friends from 2 to 8PM Tuesday to the SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant (724-547-2122), where services will be held at 11AM Wednesday with the Rev. Harry Langley officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post 446 will follow in Scottdale Cemetery. Please visit www.saloom-rega.com to send a condolence.
