George T. Leary, Jr., 91, of Hunker, PA passed away January 2, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. George, lovingly nicknamed Bud/Buddy, was born May 25, 1927 in Pittsburgh, son of the late George T. Leary, Sr. and Pearl Moran Leary. He was a member of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Youngwood, PA. George left high school shortly before graduation to join the Navy during WWII. He served as a Fireman First Class on the USS Doyen and USS Columbia earning the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. George was a 70 year member of the IBEW Local #5. He married the love of his life, Dolores M. Gaier, on June 20, 1953 and they shared 65 beautiful years before she passed on September 15, 2018. He is survived by his loving children Carol Leary Tiberio (Richard) and their children Lauren Surbaugh (Jared), Lindsey Hanlon (Michael), Richard Tiberio, Jr. (Jessica); George T. Leary Ill (Joanne) and their children Rebecca Lengvarsky (Mark), Meghan Leary, Ryan Leary; and James P. Leary(Cindy), who selflessly moved to the family farm to care and honour our parents wishes to remain at their home until their time on this earth ended; nine sweet great grandchildren; a cherished sister-in-law Kathleen Merriman (Robert deceased) who shared a lifetime of travel with George and Dolly; a special aunt-in-law Rita Joyce of Cochranton; a sister Patricia Leary of Zelienople; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and beloved Dolly, George was predeceased by sisters Virginia Leary Kress (Raymond) and Alma Leary Horner (Frank) and a special nephew Raymond A. Kress, Jr. There will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to gather at a memorial mass celebrating George's life on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 9:00 a.m at Saint Rita of Cascia, 116 S. 2nd Street, Connellsville PA. Graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA later that day at 2:30 p.m. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Amedisys Hospice, especially nurses Carol Leonard and Jill Quigg for their extraordinary service, love and comfort they provided our parents during their final journey.
