Harriet D. Cerkovnik

October 16, 1935 — December 18, 2015

Harriet D. Cerkovnik 80 of Latrobe formerly Youngwood passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living in Latrobe. Harriet was born October 16, 1935 in Mount Pleasant the daughter of the late Anthony and Angeline Schwab Bienia. Harriet was a 1953 graduate of Hurst High School a 1955 of the Mercy School of Nursing and a former member of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Youngwood. Harriet stayed at home to raise her children, loving to sew, she made clothes for herself and her children. Harriet also loved to paint creating wonderful oil paintings. During the holidays she would paint winter scenes on the huge windows of her home. Surviving are her children, Michael Cerkovnik and wife Angela of NC, Michele Brezovec and husband Carl of Peterborough, NH, Richard Cerkovnik and wife Sharon of Ellicott, MD, Diane Torrance and husband Keith of Latrobe and Nicholas Cerkovnik and fiance' Jaclyn of Greensburg; granchildren, Timothy, David, Jessica and Benjamin, and Adam, Ryan and Alex; sisters, Sister Mary Anita Bienia of Rome and Marcella Conde of Indiana. In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas and brothers, Rev. Fr. Michael Biena and Anthony J. Bienia. Friends are invited to attend Harriet's blessing service at 10AM on Saturday January 9, 2016 in the chapel of the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery with Rev. William C. McGuirk officiating. Entombment with her late husband will follow in the cemetery mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in memory of Harriet be made to the Ligonier Ambulance Service 508 N Market St, Ligonier, PA 15658.
