James W. Stitt

James W. Stitt, 88, of New Stanton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, in his sons home, where he had been residing. He was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Grismore, a son of the late Roy and Orpah Barr Stitt. A veteran of the Army, he served during World War II and was honorably discharged a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the Expert Infantryman Badge and the World War II Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by U.S. Steel, American Bridge. Mr. Stitt was a member of the New Stanton United Methodist Church and the New Stanton, Youngwood and Hunker Senior Citizens Associations. He and his late wife were active in delivering Meals on Wheels to area residents. Surviving is his son, Samuel James Stitt and wife, Shirley (Yezek), of Mt. Pleasant; his grandson, Jason James Stitt, of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mary Collins, of Ohio, and Carol Siverd, of Clymer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, Betty Jane (Barber) Stitt, on April 7, 2013; and three sisters, Minta Forsha, Margaret Sabo and Sarah Kelly. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE, 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, with Pastor Bonnie King officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the New Stanton United Methodist Church, 612 S. Center Ave., New Stanton, PA 15672.
