John Michael Guzzy

John Michael Guzzy 94 of New Stanton, passed away Saturday January 11, 2025 at Independence Westmoreland Hospital. John was born September 29,1930 the son of the late John and Mary Crouse Guzzy. John was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Youngwood. He was a 1948 graduate of East Huntingdon High school and was a self employed custom home building contractor for over 50 years. He was always searching for local properties to develop and successfully built numerous homes throughout the area. John was a member of National Guard Co E Mt. Pleasant and he enjoyed playing baseball and participated in the American Legion League. He loved playing baseball with his children and grandchildren. He was proud to be able to educate his children by sending every one of them to college. John loved to work, working until the age of 75 with his sons by his side. Surviving are his wife Betty Nagy Guzzy; children, Scott Guzzy (Terri), Lisa Guzzy, Eric Guzzy (Amy), Lauren Sofia, Craig Guzzy, Lanette Wertz (Doug) and J. Christian Guzzy (Amy); grandchildren, Jake Mertes, Emily Mertes, Alexa Marshall, Ellison Guzzy, Quincy Guzzy, Matthew Wertz, Grey Guzzy and McKenna Wertz; great grandchildren, Juliette Daniel, Althea and Edison Marshall. Siblings, Josephine Manupelli of Monroeville, Frances Arlotta of Harrison City and Stanley Guzy of Belleview, MI. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Marcella Perry and brothers, Joseph Guzy and William Guzy. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 8pm Wednesday at SLATER-REGA FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC 730 W.Main Street Mt Pleasant where parting prayers will be held at 9:15am on Thursday followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Youngwood. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 446 Mt. Pleasant followed by entombment at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park Cemetery, Greensburg.
