Joyce Shirer Begonia

Joyce Shirer Begonia,79 of Alverton passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born September 27, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant the daughter of the late Cadet and Dorothy Shirer. Joyce was a member of the Alverton United Methodist Church where she was an organist, Sunday School Teacher and Communion Stewardess. Joyce was a graduate of East Huntington High School, was formerly employed by Union Apparel, Norvelt, a former member of the East Huntington VFD Ladies Auxiliary, and the Bullskin and Everson Senior Citizens, she loved to travel. Surviving are her children, Sandy Schachte (Tim) of Alverton, Laurie Newcomer (Kevin) and Lisa Zimmerman (Carl) of Mt. Pleasant and Kristie Sherbondy (Scott) of Alverton. Grandchildren, Jill Welling (Tim), Kevin Newcomer, Jr., Leanne Newcomer, Danielle Zimmerman, Hollie McKnight (Jesse), Brennan Zimmerman, Colin, Connor and Cole Sherbondy.; Great grandchildren, Zoey, Lexi Welling and soon to be born, Baylee Grace McKnight; sister-in-law, Rita Shirer and brother-in-law, Jack Begonia, extended family member, Richard Salamone of Mt. Pleasant and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Joyce's special caregivers for their care and attention. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Larry Begonia in 1982, her brothers, Walter and Tom Shirer and boyfriend of 30 years, Joseph Salamone. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Avenue, FL17 Chicago,IL 60601. The family is inviting friends from 1 to 8PM Thursday to SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE 730 W. Main Street Mount Pleasant and from10 to 11AM Friday to the Alverton United Methodist Church where services will be held at 11AM with her nephew Rev. Tom Shirer officiating.
