Pauline F. Smartnick, 95, of Hunker, Hempfield Township, passed away Thursday evening, July 30, 2015, in The Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe, where she has been a resident since 2005. She was born June 21, 1920, in Everson, a daughter of the late Zachary and Margaret Luczcz Nebesney. Mrs. Smartnick was employed as a glass worker for Anchor Hocking in South Connellsville from 1942 to 1948, before starting her family. She enjoyed flowers, watching and feeding birds, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph G. Smartnick, preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1990. She is survived by her three children, Rose Marie Brush and husband, John W. "Jack", of Greensburg, Patricia Ann Havel, of Hunker, and Daniel J. Smartnick and wife, Mary Elaine, of Latrobe; two grandchildren, John W. Brush II and wife, Amy, of Butler, and Brian M. Brush and wife, Kristie, of Kentucky; two great-grandchildren, Tayler and Jeremy Brush; a sister, Florence Nebesney Hostoffer, of Everson; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are her son-in-law, Dan Havel; three sisters, Stella Misterka, Nellie Krol and Frances Stillwagon; and four brothers, Walter, Michael, John and Joseph Nebesney. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE, 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, where a blessing service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2015. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
