Richard A. Kattera, 89, of New Stanton, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant.
Rich was born November 2, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant the son of the late Frank P. and Anna Benko Kattera. He was a 1946 graduate of East Huntingdon High School, a member of the National Guard, Co E 110th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, Mt. Pleasant in 1950 when deployed during the Korean War to Germany earning an Occupation Medal. Rich was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant, American Legion Post 446 and VFW Post 3368, Mt. Pleasant and prior to retirement was employed as a bricklayer by the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9, serving as past president of the union and receiving a craftsman award from the American Institute of Architects for his exemplary skill as a mason.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Marcella Jordan Kattera; nieces and nephews, Joyce Thomas,Sally Spang, Larry Miller, Barbara Miller Craig, Dennis Miller, Deborah Miller, Denise Fontanazza, Eddie Kattera, Karen Hillegas, Scott Kattera, Frank Bowman (Doris) and Jim Sedlacko; also great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Lillian Kattera. In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Blaine,Vincent Kattera, Mary Ann Miller, Edward Kattera, John Kattera and mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Virginia Jordan.
The family is inviting friends from 1 to 2 PM Thursday to SALOOM-REGA FUNERAL SERVICE 730 W. Main Street Mt. Pleasant where services will be held at 2PM with Pastor Bob Ellson officiating, following military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 446 and VFW Post 3368. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
