Ronald C. Bates, Sr. of Scottdale passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016. Ron was born in Scottdale (Mt. Nebo) the son of the late Clark and Mary Sheraw Bates. Ron began his employment at the age of 16 for the family business, Bates Coal and Trucking, Co., he attended Scottdale High School, assisted his wife and daughter in the floral business, Gayle Lee Floral, Mt. Pleasant and was also employed by Russell Brothers of Washington, PA, delivering gravel throughout the area. Ron enjoyed riding his motorcycle, country music, traveling, his antique cars and claimed that he had driven millions of miles as a truck driver, delivery man and traveler. He was a member of the Community Christian Church, Mt. Pleasant. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Gayle Lee Long Bates; a daughter Brenda Bates, his two grandsons, Dustin and Drake and faithful companion, Jetta. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a son, Ronald C. Bates, Jr. The family is inviting friends to attend Ron's funeral service at 2PM Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Community Christian Church 709 W. Main Street Mt. Pleasant with Al Thomas officiating.
