Samuel J. "Sam" Marvis 65 of Greensburg passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at UPMC-Montifiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. Sam was born July 4, 1948 in Mount Pleasant the son of the late Sam and Verna Rogacki Marvis. Sam was a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg. He was a 1966 graduate of Mount Pleasant Area High School and the University of Kentucky, where he received a scholarship to play football. Upon graduating from the University of Kentucky, Sam began his teaching career in Virginia then with Greensburg Central Catholic, where he coached football and eventually with Greensburg Salem School District, coaching football and tennis and retiring after a long career. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Yanizeski Marvis, children, Sam Marvis and wife Carrie of York, PA and Michael Marvis of Greensburg; granddaughters, Julianna and Caroline Marvis; a sister, Barbara Amoroso and husband John "Jack" of Mount Pleasant and a niece, Julie Scarpelli and husband Guy of NJ.
