Sara "Sally" L. Shumar, 95 of Mt pleasant passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital. Sara was born July 9,1929 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Eston and Mae Long King. Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Shumar, Jr.; sisters, Romaine Shipley (toots), Genevieve Snyder, Roberta Clark and Lida Dunn. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Sara was a graduate of Hurst High School and continued her education in nursing, graduating in the last class of Henry Clay Frick Memorial Hospital School of nursing in 1950. She began her lifelong career as a Registered Nurse, employed by Connellsville State Hospital and Mt. Pleasant Hospital, where she worked in the OR and later on general floors for over 40 years. She was a thoughtful and loving person, who touched the lives around her. Caregiving came naturally to her, as she devoted herself to the care of others.The family especially would like to thank nephew and wife, Brian and Tammy Dunn for their care and kindness and also a heartfelt thanks to Debbie Smartnick for her years of caregiving, friendship and love of Sara. Also, a special thanks to Pastor Brian Zeisloft, the visitation team from the Church of God, Bridges Hospice and the staff of Latrobe hospital for their kind care. Private service and interment will be held on Friday at Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. Arrangements are under direction of SLATER-REGA FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC 730 W.
